Hi, I’m Dr. Friesen – Here’s My Story!
Dentistry has been a huge part of my life long before I ever picked up a drill. I was born with a cleft lip and palate, which meant over 20 surgeries and countless hours in the dental chair. The care and kindness of my dentists made a lasting impact on me, and it wasn’t long before I knew—I wanted to do the same for others.
In 2008, I graduated from the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Dentistry with awards in implantology, endocrinology & pediatrics but the biggest surprise wasn’t walking across the stage. My preemie son arrived just in time for graduation, making that milestone even more unforgettable!
My early years in dentistry took me all over Manitoba, from fly-in communities in the north to Health Sciences Centre as a general practice resident. Life then took an unexpected turn when my dear mentor, Dr. Spiegel, became ill. That led me to join my wife, Heidi (a hygienist working for Dr. Spiegel) and begin our family practice iDental Centre. Through it all, our family grew—we are now blessed with a wonderful son and three sweet daughters.
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been helping others overcome their dental fears and achieve a beautiful, healthy smile. Additionally, volunteering in Guatemala has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, allowing me to make a tangible difference in the lives of others while giving back to the community. Just before graduation, I had the incredible opportunity to provide dental care in Guatemala, and it left such an impact that I’ve continued this mission every year since. Helping others has always been at the heart of why I do what I do.
Like so many others, COVID brought challenges, and a move became necessary. In August 2024, we opened iDental Centre in Southwest Winnipeg—a state-of-the-art clinic designed to provide top-quality care in a warm, welcoming environment.
At iDental, Heidi and I are on a mission: to serve and care for every patient with kindness, skill, and heart. To us, dentistry isn’t just about teeth—it’s about people.
We’re so grateful for our incredible patients, our amazing team, and the journey that’s brought us here. Looking forward to seeing you at iDental Centre!
